12th May 2015 – CQC Press Release
Hale Place Care Homes Limited first provider in Kent to have two services rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.
The Care Quality Commission has rated the quality of care provided by Hale Place Care Homes Limited at two of its services Hale Place Garden Lodge and Hale Place Farmhouse, both care homes in East Peckham, Tonbridge Kent, as Outstanding.
Hale Place Garden Lodge is a service providing residential care for three older people and Hale Place Farmhouse is a service which offers accommodation for ten older people, both services are for people living with dementia. These are the first care services in Kent to receive the Outstanding rating under CQC’s approach to inspection.
During an unannounced inspection of the services, in December, CQC found that staff had the skills, knowledge and experience they needed to support people effectively.
Inspectors found people’s care was personalised to reflect their wishes and what was important to them. Care plans and risk assessments were reviewed and updated when needs changed.
CQC found people were at the heart of the service. They were able to take part in a wide range of activities of their choosing. The arrangements for social activities were innovative, met people’s social needs and enhanced their sense of wellbeing.
Inspectors also observed there was an open and positive culture which focussed on people. The manager operated an ‘open door ‘policy, welcoming and acting on people’s and staff’s suggestions for improvement.
Adrian Hughes, Deputy Chief Inspector for Adult Social Care in the South, said:
“We found the management and staff at Hale Place Garden Lodge and Hale Place Farmhouse committed to providing outstanding care to the people living at the two homes. People were supported and encouraged to have choice and control in a range of aspects of their lives. The team working there led by the registered manager should be extremely proud of the work they do.
“What really impressed me in reading the inspection report and speaking with those involved in the inspection about this service was the level of personalised support that people received, from staff who had the right skills and who treated people with kindness, compassion and dignity. People told us they liked the staff who supported them, and staff themselves declared it a great place to work.
“People should always be cared for by services that are safe, effective, caring, responsive to their needs, and well led. I would encourage other providers to read this report, and the others we have published on services we have rated Outstanding, to see what they can learn.”
